A huge iceberg has been towering above Innaarsuit in Greenland for a week

16 July 2025

Incredible images show a huge iceberg drifting dangerously close to the shore in Greenland this week. The towering structure has been edging closer to a harbour in Innaarsuit, where local authorities have issued warnings to the public. It is now near the Royal Greenland fish factory and the local food store, where people are being advised to take care when visiting.

This giant white wall looming over the village of Innaarsuit in Greenland isn’t a mountain, but a huge iceberg that has drifted very close to the village’s harbour. As New Scientist went to press, the iceberg had been in position for a week and authorities were warning people to stay away from it due to fears of a collision or that it could break apart.
